Introduction

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) for recruitment to various Group B and Group C posts in different Ministries, Departments and Organizations of the Government of India.

SSC CGL 2026 is a national-level competitive examination conducted in two tiers. Candidates who meet the prescribed educational qualification and age requirements can apply for the examination through the official SSC website.

The examination offers recruitment to posts such as Assistant Section Officer, Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector in CBIC, Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub Inspector, Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant and several other posts.

Eligibility

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or Institute for most SSC CGL posts.   For the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at the 12th standard level, or a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.   For Statistical Investigator Grade-II, specific educational qualifications related to Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Demography, Population Studies, Operation Research, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Technology, Computer Application, Data Science or Artificial Intelligence are prescribed.   Candidates appearing in the final year of graduation may apply, provided they possess the required qualification by 01 August 2026.

Application Fee

The application fee is ₹100.   Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from payment of the application fee.   Fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or eligible Debit Cards.

Selection Process

The SSC CGL 2026 selection process consists of:   1. Tier-I Computer Based Examination 2. Tier-II Computer Based Examination   Tier-II Paper-I is compulsory for all posts. Paper-II is applicable to candidates shortlisted for Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II posts. Paper-III is applicable to candidates shortlisted for Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer posts.   Document Verification and post-specific physical, medical or other requirements may apply depending on the post.

Syllabus

SSC CGL Tier-I syllabus covers General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.   Tier-II Paper-I covers Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language and Comprehension, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge Test and Data Entry Speed Test.   Paper-II covers Statistics for eligible JSO/Statistical Investigator candidates, while Paper-III covers General Studies (Finance and Economics) for eligible Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer candidates.

Salary

SSC CGL 2026 posts are placed under different Pay Levels.   Pay Level 8: ₹47,600 – ₹1,51,100 Pay Level 7: ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400 Pay Level 6: ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400 Pay Level 5: ₹29,200 – ₹92,300 Pay Level 4: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100   The exact pay level depends on the post allotted to the candidate.

SSC CGL 2026 Selection Process

The SSC CGL selection process is conducted through Tier-I and Tier-II Computer Based Examinations. Tier-I is used for shortlisting candidates for Tier-II.
